Attention all Professional Church Workers and their spouses!
As servants of Christ and His Church, it’s all about the Word of God—we
depend on it; we teach it; we serve with it. We also benefit from
concentrated times away to feed on it. That’s what the Texas District’s
“Retreat on Prayer and Spirituality” is all about.
Of course, for us as Lutherans, even a prayer retreat is really all
about the Word of God—receiving it and responding to it. That’s why
Luther set up the Catechism that way: Word of God in Law and Gospel, and
then responding in Word-of-God-guided prayer.
The annual prayer retreat, this year is October 4-6, at the Canyon of
the Eagles Resort (www.canyonoftheeagles.com)
It is the perfect time and place to live in (or get into) that rhythm of
Word of God and prayer (1 Tim 4:5). I go every year now and my only
regret is that I waited so long before trying it out! So I strongly
encourage you to go to the Texas District website at www.txdistlcms.org,
and then click on the link to “Retreat on Prayer and Spirituality.”
You can choose from three different tracks:
* Track I (101) - Introduction and foundation to Prayer & Spirituality
Formation
* Track II (Alumni) - Going deeper, less structure, more time for prayer
solitude
* Track III (Self-led) - No structure, self-directed free time
All tracks provide a way to get away for a couple of days with nothing
else to do except spend time in the Word of God and prayer. You’ll be
glad you did; you’ll be blessed by God through His Word; and the people
you serve will also be blessed by God at work through you.
Rev. Ernie Bernet, St. Mark Lutheran Church, Mineral Wells, TX; member
of the Texas District Commission of Prayer and Spiritual Formation;
co-facilitator of Track I at the prayer retreat; and doctoral student in
Lutheran Spirituality.
