NEW SYNODICAL PRESIDENT

Rev. Matthew Harrison mentioned in his speech after being elected as
Synod's new president, that many people were hurting in the room. I'm
sure that was more true at the end of the convention than at the time of
the election of President-elect Harrison.

Conventions of the LC-MS have been taking on a more political nature,
and this convention was no exception. People who were against the
restructuring left disappointed that many things from the Blue Ribbon
Task Force were adopted. Many votes on other resolutions and elections
were close, leaving those on the short end feeling down. The political
nature did not encourage people to talk to each other as sides were
decided and action taken.

Before the convention, the President of the Synod and the LC-MS as a
whole needed to be in our daily prayers. The same is true after the
convention. We should remember President Kieschnick and his staff as
they transition out of office and President-elect Harrison and his staff
as they transition into office. The different opinions expressed at the
convention on a number of issues have not disappeared. Just as
President Kieschnick inherited a church split on some issues, so
President-elect Harrison inherits a church split on issues. An election
will not and does not change this fact. This is why it is so important
for all of us to keep our Synodical leaders in our prayers, honor them
as our leaders, and speak well of them. I encourage you to join with me
in prayer for our leaders.

The LC-MS communication department did an excellent job of covering the
convention. I would encourage you to go to Synod's website
(www.lcms.org) for an overview of all the elections and the resolutions
passed.
