KANSAS TORNADOES
A number of congregations have contacted the Texas District Office,
wanting to offer support for the tornado victims in Kansas. The Kansas
District - LCMS website (www.kslcms.org) offers information on the
storms, casualties, needs and resources.

The following excerpts are taken from the LCMS e-News bulletin. (Login
or subscribe to the LCMS e-News bulletin at
http://www.lcms.org/ca/www/enews/login.asp.)
Members lose 13 homes, church building to tornado
Thirteen member families of Peace Lutheran Church, Greensburg, Kan.,
"lost everything -- their homes, furniture, clothing, all their
possessions" to the May 4 tornado that all but flattened the town of
1,500 and killed 10 residents, according to the congregation's pastor.
The tornado also destroyed the LCMS congregation's church building.
In Holyrood, one LCMS family reportedly lost all its farm's outbuildings
to the tornado, another had extensive roof damage, and a third family
incurred roof damage as its home sat in floodwater.
The storm also caused water damage -- and possibly structural damage --
to the chancel at Zion Lutheran Church, Claflin.
"Peace will hold a worship service on Sunday [May 13] in the midst of
debris to thank God for His mercy and grace in sustaining the members of
the congregation," Merritt wrote via e-mail.
LCMS World Relief/Human Care gave a $30,000 emergency grant -- to be
administered by Our Savior Lutheran Church, Pratt -- to help the members
of Peace, Greensburg, meet immediate needs. The Synod's mercy arm also
announced that it would match donations up to a total of $200,000 for
those affected by tornadoes.
To support LCMS World Relief/Human Care's disaster-response efforts in
Greensburg and elsewhere, send donations to LCMS World Relief/Human
Care, P.O. Box 66861, St. Louis, MO 63166-9810. Write "Kansas tornadoes"
in the memo line. To donate via credit card, call (888) 930-4438.

Have You Mailed Your Campus Ministry Survey Cards?
The greatest challenge for our LCMS campus ministries is getting current
home addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses for students that
will be going to their campuses in the fall. The best time to reach
students is BEFORE they leave for summer jobs, etc. As soon as the
campus ministries have the information, they will contact students
individually to invite to participate in Bible study and fellowship
activities that will be available when they arrive on campus in the
fall. Students have the opportunity not only to establish new
friendships and increase their spiritual growth, but also to develop
into the LCMS lay leaders of the future.
Your help is urgently needed to acquire this information. When you
receive your packet, please give it to the appropriate staff member for
completion. They are printed on bright yellow card stock with a cover
memo. As our office receives the completed cards from you, they are
sorted and mailed to the campus ministries or churches in the cities and
towns where students will be living and going to school.
An alternative to completing the physical cards is to complete the form
on line. Just go to the District website at www.txdistlcms.org. Click on
the Mission & Ministry link and select Campus Ministries from the drop down.
Questions? Call, Carole Stevenson or Keith Howanitz
at (800) 951-3478 for assistance.
