PRAYER RETREAT . . . OCTOBER 1-3

“Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” - (Mark
6:31 – ESV)

Jesus not only advocated—but He also took—times away from everyone. They
were times of prayer and solitude. I’ve always found it ironic that
Christ’s words and desire are not accomplished in this text! The crowds
beat the disciples to the spot, and ministry continued. Mark doesn’t
record if Christ ever got His disciples away on the retreat to which He
had invited them.

Consider this a similar invitation…an encouragement from Christ to join
brothers & sisters in Christ at the 48-Hour Retreat at Canyon of the
Eagles. I’ve received them as that “desolate” (and beautiful!) place of
rest, reflection, listening, and prayer. We all need that—we all know
what it’s like when we haven’t had that. Please consider joining us
October 1-3. I believe that the Lord gives blessings to me there that
don’t come from anywhere else. I believe He’ll give blessings to you in
the same way. Plan now to attend!

TEXAS PARTNERS IN MISSION...Special Mailing
By now, all Pastors in the Texas District should have received the
initial mailing about Texas Partners in Mission. This ministry of the
Texas District creates partnerships between people who provide direct
support to 66 missions within our district. With an estimated 320,000
people moving to Texas per year, the mission opportunities seem endless
and maybe even overwhelming. To God be the glory that 51 of these
mission were started since 2000 and 25 were started since 2004. God has
brought many talented clergy and lay leaders to plant new churches.

Two levels of partnership are invited:
1. Personal...you are invited to become a Prayer Partner, Financial
Partner and Area Partner. The mailing contained a brochure and gift card
which outlined these partnerships.
2. Congregational...we hope all Texas District congregations will
celebrate, publicize and encourage involvement with Texas Partners in
Mission on or around September 23 for Texas Partners in Mission Sunday.
Special materials will be sent for your use near the end of August.
Presentations to your congregation about Texas Partners in Mission are
available upon request.
