IN OUR PRAYERS . . .

CAROLYN AND DEL KING (Faith, Laredo) - as Carolyn continues her fight
against lung cancer.  She remains in St. Louis, with their daughter and
family, undergoing chemotherapy. She will be there for about six or seven
more months.  Del spends time there with her each week and then returns to
Laredo.  She was hospitalized last week and through the weekend, suffering
from pneumonia and a dangerous infection in her bloodstream.  Please keep
Carolyn and her family in your prayers.

FROM PRESIDENT JIM LINDERMAN

TEXAS DISTRICT CENTENNIAL OFFERING:

If you have not done so, I would encourage you to take up a special offering
or have a door offering in celebration of our District's 100th Anniversary
and bring it with you to the Opening Service of the Convention, 22 June 06.
The offering from that service will be divided 50/50 between the Texas
District and the Southern District for designated mission projects to
recognize and celebrate our 100th Anniversary.

The Texas District came about when it was separated off from the Southern
District in their District Convention, which was held in Houston, Texas,
February 1906. The purpose of the separation was so that more personal
attention could be given to mission work and the reaching of the unchurched
with the Gospel.

The Board of Directors of the Texas District thought this would be another
meaningful way to celebrate this memorable occasion. See you there---Jim
Linderman

CORRECTION to the Rev. Dr. George J. Beto Leadership Award Announcement

Thanks to all of you who let us know about the error concerning Dr. Beto's
service as President of a seminary.  Many of you knew first hand that Dr.
Beto was in fact President of Concordia Seminary, Springfield - not
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.  You were students when he was at
Springfield.

My information came from a news release from Concordia University Austin.
That information has now been corrected.

Nevertheless, the error didn't diminish the pride we feel that Texas
District President Jim Linderman is the first recipient of this award.

OPPORTUNITY FOR RETIRED OR SEMI-RETIRED PASTOR

A congregation in Southeastern Minnesota is seeking the services of a
retired or semi-retired pastor.  The congregation offers a parsonage, the
cost of utilities, and annual salary of $15,000.  If you know of someone who
may be interested in this type of situation, please have them be in touch
with Pres. Lane Seitz in the Minnesota South District Office (951/435-2550).

PASTORS AND CONGREGATIONS - CIRCUIT FORUMS

Your Circuit Counselor may have already or will soon be contacting you about
the circuit forum to elect delegates to the 2007 Synodical Convention.
These forums must be held no later than nine months prior to the convention,
by October 14, 2006.

All congregations have the right to nominate one layperson from the circuit
and to submit the name to the Circuit counselor prior to the day of the
forum.  The names of the laypersons submitted become the slate for the lay
delegate elections.

Each congregation is required to be represented at the circuit forum by a
congregation-designated layperson and the congregation's pastor.  In cases
of multiple-congregation parishes, the pastor represents all congregations
he serves (Bylaw 5.3.2) but has only one vote.

The election process provided by Bylaw 3.1.2.1 (a-h) must be carefully
followed, including the use of written ballots, and election results must be
reported in writing to the Secretary of the District immediately following
the meeting on forms that will be provided each Circuit Counselor.

We have had word that some circuits intend to caucus at the District
Convention.  If you have not heard from your Circuit Counselor, call him to
see when your circuit will caucus.

FROM THE LCMS MAY 23 TODAY IN HISTORY

1891

The Chapel Car idea was conceived. Boston W. Smith came up with the idea of
bringing specially outfitted rail cars, ten feet wide and sixty feet long,
into unchurched "Wild West" communities where they could serve as churches
until something more permanent was established and then move on. A dozen of
these cars were set on rail sidings. They did more to tame the American West
than all the gunmen that dominate Hollywood films.
