LINC DFW Offers College Students and Adults the Chance to Help Provide
Hands-on Ministry Leadership at New Hope, Dallas

Please pass this on to folks in your congregation who may be willing to
assist as a Day Camp counselor at New Hope Community Lutheran in East
Dallas.  LINC staff will provide the training to equip you to work with
other volunteers in offering a wonderful day-camp opportunity to children
who live in the  neighborhoods around New Hope.

SPECIAL NEED!  Organist/Voice Choir & Handbell Choir Director Needed

Chuck Jennings, beloved music director at Trinity Lutheran Church in
Copperas Cove, TX died on January 5th of injuries received in a January 3rd
automobile accident.  As they continue to mourn the sudden passing of a dear
friend, fine musician and brother in Christ, the people of Trinity now must
seek a qualified person to continue the splendid work that Chuck had going.

GLORYbound 2008 Planning Team Sets Place and Date as Ft. Worth, November
28-30, 2008

Adam Griffin, Lamb of God, Flower Mound and Bobby Walston, St. Paul, Ft.
Worth are Co-Chairs for GLORYbound, 2008, the Texas District Youth
Gathering.  Nearly 2,000 youth, young adult volunteers and adult leaders
participated in the 2005 Gathering in San Antonio.  The DFW based team of
more than 25 leaders have begun planning in earnest and will be sharing info
about the Gathering as it becomes available.  Put this on your advanced
planning calendar! 

The planning team of nearly 25 had an on-site meeting on January 11th and is
excited for the opportunity to serve you.  Look for Info on this event in
the near future as theme and Scripture begin to shape the plans

TIGHTENED RULES IN 2007 FOR DEDUCTION OF CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS - A Note
from Marlys Erickson, Treasurer, Texas District, LCMS

A change that was legislated last fall in the Pension Protection Act of 2006
will have an impact on your CASH contributions in 2007.  None of your "cash"
contributions are deductible unless you have a receipt for them from the
organization receiving your cash gift.  Some of the ways this will impact an
individual in the church is that cash plate offerings, regardless of amount,
will not be deductible without a written acknowledgement from the church.
Same is true for cash you put in the basket at Sunday School, or cash you
put into a door offering.  This pertains to loose cash not inside an
offering envelope; cash inside an offering envelope is identifiable by the
envelope number and can be recorded as in the past.  

Churches may want to provide advance notice of the Sundays where there will
be special door offerings taken so people can plan ahead and have a check
along if they plan to participate.  Members of congregations may want to
consider contributing their Sunday School offerings monthly or quarterly by
check instead of making weekly cash gifts.
