with ministry friends across the state. A planning team from the DFW area
is already in place working on this event for next Spring. Cost will again
be $99 thanks to our ongoing partnership with the District. Look for

Youth ministry symposium to focus on youth culture and the Church - It's In
Houston - January 5-7!

The annual DCS Youth Ministry conference for those serving high school youth
in Lutheran congregational and school settings, YM2007: A Youth Ministry
Symposium will be held January 5-7, 2007 at the JW Marriott in Houston, Tx.

Youth Ministry Symposiums focus on issues timely to youth culture and the
impact on ministry to and for young people across the LCMS. The 2007 topic:
Abandoned but Not Lost: Reclaiming the Church's Young People, features
speakers Chap Clark and Rev. Dr. Marvin Bergman. The Symposium includes
guided conversation on implementing the ideas discussed into LCMS youth
ministry settings.

Youth ministry thinker and speaker, Chap Clark will focus on material found
in his current book, Hurt: Inside the World of Today's Teenagers. Clark's
work offers a penetrating look into the contemporary adolescent experience
as it relates to the institutions that should care for them. YM2007
participants will engage in discussion and community with Clark throughout
the event.

Rev. Dr. Marvin Bergman, professor emeritus for Concordia University
Nebraska will introduce participants to the findings of a new study on
Confirmation practices in The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.
Participants will consider implications of the findings for practical youth
ministry programs. Bergman has been in ministry in theology and education
on the faculty at CUNE for more than 30 years.

About the topic, Rev. Terry Dittmer - Symposium director and Director for
LCMS Youth Ministry shares, "Today's youth often feel abandoned by the
institutions that have responsibility for them, including the family,
schools, government, and even the church. The church needs to raise its
awareness of and sensitivity to its youth as it shares the faith with them.
This is a timely topic with no easy answers. Participants are in for
challenging time."

Participants can arrive early to engage in a Friday morning youth ministry
practicum, January 5, led by Dr. Jim McConnell, DCE Director at Concordia
University Austin. The symposium begins with lunch at 12:30PM on January 5
and concludes Sunday, January 7 at 11:00AM.

YM2007 is open to both professionals and volunteers serving youth in
congregations, schools, agencies, and districts of the LCMS. College
students pursuing careers in church work and youth ministry are also welcome
and encouraged to attend.

Registration for the three-day event is $200. Full YM2007 registration
details are available online at www.lcms.org/youth
<http://www.lcms.org/youth>

LCMS National Youth Gathering Registrations Sent

By now, you should have received your gathering packet for next year's
National LCMS Youth Gathering and the first-time Adult Gathering -- both set
for July 28-Aug. 1 in Orlando, Fla. The mailing also includes a DVD to help
congregations and groups plan for the Gathering. Online registration opens
Sept. 25 at the Gathering Web site, http://www.lcmsgathering.com
<http://www.lcmsgathering.com> .

Mailed-in registration forms postmarked no earlier than Oct. 25 will be
processed in a "priority window" that starts on that date, through Nov. 8.
Registration forms postmarked earlier than Oct. 25 will be returned to the
sender for remailing.

Youth Gathering registration will continue until March 1, or until a maximum
35,000 participants are registered. Registration capacity for the Adult
Gathering is 2,000 participants.

For more information about the Adult Gathering, including how to promote it
in congregations, see the Gathering Web site. The Adult Gathering is open
to participants who are at least 25 years old.

A late fee of $50 will apply for registrations postmarked after March 1.
The registration fee for the 2007 Youth Gathering is $235 -- just $10 more
than for the 2004 Gathering, which also was in Orlando.

"The Gathering has worked to keep cost increases to a minimum," said Rev.
Terry Dittmer, director of LCMS Youth Ministry. "The National Youth
Gathering takes its commitment to LCMS youth and congregations [to be good
stewards of their dollars] very seriously."

Gathering registration fees cover all costs for participation in the
Gathering, including the Gathering Bible and backpack, and all program
administrative fees for LCMS Youth Ministry, the Gathering sponsor.

Congregations that have not received their mailed Gathering registration
packets by Sept. 5 should contact the LCMS Youth Ministry office at (800)
248-1930, Ext. 1155.

Did You Know that there are more than 100 DCE's Serving in the Texas
District? Did you know that all three Mission and Ministry Facilitators in
the Texas District are DCE's! I am not totally sure, but I believe we have
the largest number of DCE's in the LCMS.

Blessings

Paul
